Excellent!

This is an extraordinary hotel. We loved the architecture, the location on top of the cliffs, the minimalistic and artful style, the friendliness of the staff, the fantastic breakfast (one of the best and freshest I ever had in any hotel in the world), the billiard room and the cats.

When in doubt, book a room with sea view. This time around we had a room with garden view. While the view is just fine, the traffic noise is annoying at times. The sea view rooms are heavenly. You'll just here the sound of the waves.

Excellent and unique place to stay in Madeira. A lot of bang for your buck!

The location and the architecture of the hotel blending into the cliff-top is spectacular. A lot of private space both outdoor and indoor. Very friendly and helpful staff. Proximity of the town.

Some places need repair or refurbishment, but it does not prevent the functionality of them.

Just fabulous! Hidden gem

We lovef the location! The weather was always great and the infinity pool was amazing. We coulf even swim in December with 20 degrees! Breakfast was also fantastic.

There is nothing I did not like about this hotel.

Unique, beautiful and such a cute town

Definitely the most unique place we stayed. You take an elevator up the property where the views are spectacular! It’s a bit of a big hotel, but with a small hotel charm. The town was one of the most charming we visited!

Perhaps they could explain the parking and entry upon your booking. Heated pool would be nice for this cali er of hotel. However none of them seem to be on Madeira

Great tip from receptionist for walk and free transfer to beginning of walk. Wonderful room with views

Jakuzzi very small. No water in room and no plugs close to bed side table but just little nigglies..the place was lovely

Great location. Good options for breakfast. Onsite restaurant with reasonable prices and vegetarian and vegan options

Parking is a bit of a disaster with very few parks available and most cars need to be parked up along a steep road. Indoor pool quite small.

Perfect stay for a relaxing holiday

This was our second time staying at Estalagem. Amazing property, facilities and staff. It feels both comfortable and very safe to stay there with our two small dogs. Already looking forward to our stay next year!

The only thing I wish would be improved is the fitness room. It would be great if it could get some upgrades or be expanded a little so that it is possible to get a proper strength workout in during our stay, especially since there are no other nearby gyms. The receptionists are super friendly and it is possible to borrow tennis rackets and balls in order to play at a nearby court, so that way we were able to stay active during our stay this year.

Perfect place for perfect holiday.

This was just a perfect place for our honeymoon. It had everything we needed and more. The staff was extremely nice, helpful, and forthcoming. The location itself is just stunning. The different views and settings make it a rare gem

There's nothing to dislike, but they could have one daily suggestion in their dinner menu to add to their already delicious kitchen.

Setting and amenities.

The treatment at reception is always a bit erratic. We did receive a warm welcome, but every other interaction thereafter left much to be desired. Two examples, 1) I sought help concerning a restaurant matter. The receptionist just raised her hand and said ask there pointing at a waiter passing by. 2) Checking out with a middle aged gentleman was unpleasant. No communication, eye contact or best wishes to see us off on our way. Not what I expect from the hotel industry, let alone a 4 star.

Amazing location on the rocks with a view over the ocean. Very relaxed atmosphere, especially around the fantastic swimming pool. Great breakfast!

Excellent experience

We stayed in Estalagem for a week. This was a fantastic experience and get-away that we needed. The hotel is a true architectual masterpiece and a perfect spot to feel relieved. Breakfast was brilliant, also the restaurant in the hotel. We loved the dogs who are live in the hotel.

Very Good

Hotel is in a fantastic location and our room overlooked the cliff with stunning sea views and the sound of waves. Excellent breakfast and food and the pool bar is also an honesty bar when not manned and also has a terrace with awesome views. Excellent food in the restaurant and makes for a romantic meal when eating on the outdoor terrace sea views to the sea and town below. Lovely pool area with amazing sea views. View included dolphins one morning. The hotel puts on live music events where non-residents can attend. Makes for a great atmosphere but it does get busy and it also means you cannot eat in the outdoor restaurant area and getting served at the bar becomes a real challenge. A lift takes you down to the town and it then a short stroll to restaurants, bars and the beach.

On the day we arrived whilst there were sunbeds available there were not enough cushions for the sunbeds. The bar tender when asked about this then simply removed towels from sunbeds that had no other personal items and passed the cushions to other guests to use. Service in the bar can be slow at times, especially when there are live music events in the hotel.

Lovely and interesting stay at Estalagem.

We had a lovely stay at Estalagem. There was ample facilities for rest and relaxation, and there was also activities and events that guests could join. There is a beautiful bay nearby for swimming and some places to eat and drink. Plenty of spaces to park nearby.

The bar is a little expensive compared to local restaurants, but this was acceptable. And you have to take a lift to get in and out of the hotel (which is only a problem for people who do not like lifts!)

We had a one night stop off. Loved the pool and the cliffside pool bar which was very quiet and caught early evening sun to stunning sunset. Room was comfy. Design stylish.

Shower door leaked. AC was erratic.

Beautiful views, a quiet hotel and gorgeous pool. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast was wonderful

The setting for the hotel is beautiful and the pool area was wonderful with views everywhere.

The entrance to the hotel is awkward. It’s an elevator that takes you up to the property but was hard to understand when we arrived.
